ENERGY AUDITS
Home energy audits and upgrade planning
Before spending money on upgrades, it is worth knowing where the heat is actually going. An energy audit gives you that picture and a sensible order of works.

THE SERVICE
Understand the building before you spend on it
A home energy audit is a structured assessment of how your property uses and loses energy. We look at insulation levels in the attic, walls and floor, the condition of windows and doors, draughts and air leakage, the heating system and controls, and how the house is actually occupied and heated day to day.
The output is a prioritised plan: what to do first, what it is likely to cost, what it should save, and what grant funding applies to each measure. Measures are ranked by return, so you can stage the work over time rather than committing to everything at once.
This is particularly worthwhile before a heat pump. Reducing heat loss first means a smaller, cheaper unit running at lower temperatures, which lowers both the installation cost and the running cost.

WHY IT MATTERS
Why sequencing the work saves money
Upgrades carried out in the wrong order routinely cost people money. A new heating system installed into a leaky building has to be larger, costs more to buy and more to run, and often has to be revisited once insulation is finally addressed.
✔ Fabric first: insulation and airtightness before heating plant, wherever practical
✔ Correct sizing depends on the building as it will be, not as it is today
✔ Some grants require works in a particular sequence or combination
✔ Staging the work over time is easier when the plan is set out from the start
